Papaver Orientale

This unusual and pretty poppy was photographed whilst visiting Heale Gardens near Salisbury, Wiltshire. They have lots of unusual plants, a very impressive veg garden, and a Japanese garden. I’ve tried to discover the variety of poppy; it’s very similar to ‘Patty’s Plum’ in colour, but the central ‘disc’ is different.

What I love about this plant is the fine tissue paper-like quality of the petals, and the centre which reminds me of a ‘Fondant Fancy’ or ‘Petit-Fours’ type cake.

I’ll be posting some more photographs of my visit in the next few days.
