Ha ha, great minds and all that …
My husband thought I was mad leaning out of the window of our upstairs hotel room in Shanklin because the chimney outside would make a great photo that close up. 😀

🙂 Chimneys and rooftops have always fascinated me – ever since I was small. My previous attempts at taking roof and chimney shots weren’t too successful. With this one I was in a good position as I was on a hill and the buildings were on different levels going down the hill so I was able to get a good view from on top. I look forward to seeing your chimney close-up 🙂

Thank you Sheila! I was lucky to find these – we took a detour to get to the station and discovered a lot of interesting buildings. Next time I visit, I’d like to spend more time walking around the town. The architecture is amazing.

Thank you FM. I like the character of old buildings too. I also like the mix of styles which can be found together. All that history and life that has gone on too – wonderful!

Thanks Sandy. I might have to start looking up a bit more often rather than looking on the ground!

Thank you JP. The bright oranges seem to complement the greys nicely – especially in that late afternoon sun!

Ah, I love a good old wonky British roof! They give my husband the heebie-jeebies though, he doesn’t get that we can have such old buildings and rooftops that don’t leak 🙂

🙂 These old rooftops are great – and the Victorian and Georgian ones have survived for so long, although I don’t know how often repairs have to be done! It’s the craftmanship that I like – all those little imaginative touches.

The chimneys and rooftops there have so much more character than here in the U.S. Great shot, Meanderer. Would love to see the real deal someday.

Thank you Terry. It’s really interesting when there’s a mix of styles like here, although I also love to see Victorian terrace houses with their rows of chimneys. I think you would really love the architecture of some places here in the UK.

Love the rooftops. Just beautiful. I especially love the turret on the brick home. I always wanted a turret on my house or a widow’s walk on the roof. I have neither but I did get my country porch to sit on and drink my coffee. Love the photo as your new gravatar

Thank you Jeanne. A turret would be great wouldn’t it – Rapunzel springs to mind! The Country porch sounds idyllic – I’d like one of those. I had been looking to change my gravatar to something a bit more colourful and decided to take the plunge with the rooftops. Ideally though I should have a Lighthouse Lantern Room!

Thank you Brandon! They have quite a bit of character – although you don’t see many of the round turret windows that often. I’d like one of those!
