I took this photograph of Salisbury Cathedral surrounded by rays of light yesterday afternoon. It looked beautiful against this interesting sky.
I walked up a hill in order to get a view of the surrounding landscape but didn’t stay there long; the weather had changed from mild and calm in the morning to chilly and breezy in the afternoon. I wasn’t prepared for this change in the weather and so had gone out without the required warm weather clothing.
Yesterday morning I was told by someone who studies the weather that snow is on its way here in the UK and is expected in 10 days. I was a bit sceptical at first but after feeling the biting cold of the North wind yesterday, I’ve started the preparations!

Thank you Sheila! Two years ago I would have said no, we don’t get a lot of snow here where I am in the SW of England (Scotland and Northern England tend to get more) but the last two Winters have seen some extreme Wintry conditions even in the milder South and we have had lots of snow. There have been rumours that we were in for our third snowy Winter in a row but being told it’s ten days away is a bit of a shock especially as it has been so mild! Mind you, second guessing what the weather will be is quite popular here in the UK!

Thank you Terry! It was an interesting sky and the rays looked so nice! There are lots of rumours flying around about snow. I guess the only way to approach it is to prepare and hope it won’t be too severe if it does snow!

Salisbury Cathedral is just asking for silhouette photos. This is a great one.

Thank you Dave! You’re right – the Cathedral has such a strong visual presence around Salisbury and many miles beyond. I have a couple of silhouettes of it up close but I think the distant ones work better.
I didn’t want to hear about snow either and I brushed it off when told of its impending arrival, but the weather changed yesterday so quickly – within a couple of hours from warm (I went out in the morning in shirt sleeves) to bitter (and a very uncomfortable time on the hill) that I’m now not so sure! There’s a BBC2 programme this evening all about it!

Snow?! I’ve seen a dusting on the hills far away – but I wasn’t ready for anything more than that! My knitting isn’t moving along fast enough!

Thank you Lu! The clouds were sort of billowy in this section of sky. Well, if we get snow, you will know about it first in your part of the country I guess! I haven’t started knitting for this season yet – could definitely do with a warmer and bigger hat that will cover my ears better. I have a big head – or it could be the big hair 🙂

Two things usually happen when it snows in the UK – well, more specifically England because we are not as used to it as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. First of all, people get excited about it’s imminent arrival, but when it arrives, many adults complain about it until every last bit has gone 🙂 We tend not to be very prepared for it and so run out of grit and so on. It is beautiful though. I love the way sounds are muted when it first snows.

The sky was so incredible that day in that place and amazingly yesterday’s sky was so similar: dark billowing clouds with the pink strip. We’ve had some pretty spectacular sunsets the last couple of days too with layers of pinks, purples and oranges.

Love the sky, the rays are trying to remind us tha the sun is still there even though it’s hidden from view.

Very nice! The rays almost look like showers from a distance. Speaking of snow, we got over 10 inches of snow a couple of nights ago. The cold air is here!

The snow is really pretty and we have many great ski resorts within an hour of where I live. The snow can get challenging to drive in, but people who have lived here a while are used to. Our state has the equipment to handle snow…plus a lot of salt.

It’s good that the residents and your State are prepared for snow. In England – especially the South – we don’t generally get that much snow and so don’t really prepare for it. When it hits it catches everyone out and certain things grind to a halt! I think, though, after the last two severe Winters and rumours of a third this year, we will be much better prepared 🙂

Excellent! Favorite aspect is how the silhouette of the steeple has similar angles to the light rays seeping through the clouds. Great mood in this one.

Thank you David. Salisbury Cathedral spire is a remarkable sight on most days but combined with a sky like this it certainly looks impressive on the landscape. It has the tallest medieval spire in the whole of Europe.

Thank you farmhouse stories! I’m going to have to take issue with the chap who told me it would snow! Apart from a bitter wind last Saturday afternoon, the weather is really mild. I walked to and from work today in shirt sleeves which is pretty extraordinary for the middle of November!
