Blue Boards


Some wooden boards which form a little bridge over a river tributary are stained with fading blue markings from the tar which helped to preserve them some time ago.

    1. A lot of wood was preserved with tar-based products at one time. In bright light – and as the wood ages over time – the preservative appears to have a blue tinge.


    1. Thank you, Calvin. It makes me think about how widely tar-based preservative was used once-upon-a-time. I think it is still used on utility poles – certainly smells like it.
