  1. Very interesting pictures, and nice cropping of the shadow picture too imo. It does make you wonder why the room(?) apparently needed 4/5 different colours of paint at different times. And why was the removal of the old paint so partial? Creates a strange kind of ‘exhausted impressionist’ effect…

    • Thank you, Trifocal. ‘Exhausted impressionist’ is a great way to describe the paint ‘effect’! Interesting that you mention a room. This was actually a metal gate outside a derelict building in the ‘ghost village’ of Imber in the middle of Salisbury Plain. The village was taken over by the military in 1943 with the residents being given 47 days to leave. The church opens for a few days each year when one has access to the usually closed roads and village. It has become quite busy during the last couple of years. When I first visited about 7 or 8 years ago it didn’t attract many people. Here is a link to a website with a bit more info (an internet search brings up a few more interesting sites too):
