It appears to be most useful to either look up or down rather than eye-level in Welsh towns! I saw this interesting manhole cover whilst wandering around Carmarthen, Mid Wales, at the weekend. It was a few metres away from a clock tower. I thought the little bits of Natural detritus in the hole were fun 🙂

It’s a metal rod which is attached to a building in order to discharge static electricity during lightening. Here, the rod must have run underground to the clock tower.
