Shirley Poppy Central

Up close and personal with a pretty Shirley poppy from the garden. I’ve never grown these flowers before but they are performing really well with the mixed weather we are having.

They are related to the red cornfield poppy – Papaver rhoeas – but were bred over many years by the Reverend William Wilks from Shirley in Surrey, England, who wanted a variety of pastel colours and a white centre.

Hopefully they will seed readily around the garden.
