I photographed this purple tulip last weekend whilst visiting one of the National Trust gardens in Hampshire, England. The morning started out fine enough with sunshine and warmth. Just after lunch, however, the deep dark rainclouds gathered and decided to pour lots of water on we visitors to said gardens. We were thoroughly soaked and bedraggled and had to sadly leave for home early. These tulips simply took it all in their stride. What wonderful weather proofing!

You’re very welcome! Tulips must have such a waxy protective covering as the rain just sits on top!

Thank you Steve. Although I love brightly coloured tulips, there’s just something ‘grown-up’ about the deep intense ones!

Tulips with this dark red (with names like “Black…..”!) are some of the most beautiful tulips – and I have MANY in my garden! ( http://truels.wordpress.com/2010/05/25/flowers-in-my-garden-creative-exposure-2/ )
But you have got a splendid idea with the drops: They provide the photo a super nice dimension – beautiful!

Thank you Steadily Skipping Stones. The tulips were in a large wooden tub surrounded by very delicate light blue flowers. It was an interesting combo!

Wonderfully intimate and sensual–and the reflections and refractions really make it sing!

Thank you Gary. Yes – there is an element of sensuality isn’t there? They are very ‘grown-up’ tulips compared to the brighter lighter coloured ones I think!

Now that’s extremely nice, oh yes! I think its a combination of the close up aspect – those vividly coloured and wonderfully curving sheets of petals filling most of the frame- and those startlingly bright water droplets! Glorious stuff! Being really picky, you could exclude the little patch of green on the right, as that tends to distract the eye. But WOWEEE!!!!! Adrian

Thank you Adrian! Just before I posted, I cropped a bit off the bottom because of distraction colour. I could have cloned out that green bit on the side I guess!
