Brainwaves

Watercolour-201312

Strange patterns made by trees and floating detritus in a pond remind me of brain neurons. I discovered that part of a neuron is called a dendrite – presumably because of its resemblance to trees.

    1. Thank you very much, Woodlandgnome! Yes – the effect is rather discombobulating isn’t it?! There is a gentle movement in this pond which throws up all sorts of curious reflections, colours and shapes.

  1. Good call, M, and what an absolutely fascinating abstract image! And the FATman was right–there are geological dendrites, too: they happen when one mineral crystallizes in another mineral in the form of a branching or treelike mark. And I can’t stop looking at this photo! My eye is drawn–as my younger daughter Batty used to say when she was little–every witch way!

  2. I feel my dendrites are being manipulated looking at this …it’s a nice feeling 😉
I bet your heart was beating just a little bit faster when you saw this through your lens M … such a beautiful transient moment to capture .

    1. I think I can see what you mean. I hadn’t noticed faces in it before, but now I can see one or maybe two. It’s interesting what we individually see in an abstract image!
