January Drops

Jandrops3-201401

Little raindrops collect underneath rosehips and twigs on a grey rainy January day. I photographed this during a window of a couple of hours of dryness on Sunday morning.

Despite it being the midst of Winter and one of the darker months, there is much colour and prettiness around.  I’ve chosen to highlight and focus on the drops with this silhouette rather than adjust and tweak setting for the red hips.

    1. Yes – such a tiny moment in time. It’s fascinating to watch the drops grow, stay still for a brief moment, and then – totally full – drop to the ground. Thank you, Elisa.

    1. Thank you very much, Gracie! I was lucky that there was such a plain – albeit very grey – background! I often come across such scenes with very distracting backgrounds!

  1. This has the calmness of an oriental painting and the hint of red in the berries adds a welcome hint of warmness. I wish it were warm enough here for water to be in its liquid form. Lucky you!

    1. Thank you very much, Gary. Snow is lovely and pretty and fun when it first arrives but quickly becomes tiresome – especially when one has to get around in it and keep warm. I hope it warms up soon for you! Looks like it might be getting a bit colder here.

  2. Your processing is absolutely spot on, M, and it is a truly beautiful image -in my mind due to four things – as Andy, says, the dull background; and then the sinuous way those twigs come down across the frame from upper right; and the bright water droplets of course – but the real killer for me is the faintly seen colour of the hips – for me, that lifts this shot to an altogether high plane. A 🙂

    1. Thank you very much, Adrian! I had about 5 or 6 different versions of this – almost the same, but not quite – and it took me ages to choose one.

Yes – the faint red colour works for me too; not too much – just a suggestion!
